Easton had a head ultrasound first - bless his heart! Before he was born mommy had ultrasounds every week to check out his little ventricles and now they are ultrasounding right on his little head to check those very same ventricles!! So to those of you that have had an ultrasound....know that gel they use....yep - ALL up in his hair!! YUCK!! But they really do take the pictures right through his little soft spot - it was kind of neat but unfortunately the tech wasn't real talkative!! I'm so used to being involved in this ultrasound process it was a little weird! When I was pregnant and getting these silly things every week the OB office got to know me....and I must say I got pretty good at knowing what I was looking at. Things look very different from a different angle and she didn't seem much into showing me what she was actually looking at....oh well - crossing my fingers we wont need very many of these so I don't have the opportunity to become an expert!!
After the ultrasound we headed upstairs to see Dr. Beier. In true Easton fashion she was beyond thrilled with what she was seeing both in the office and from the ultrasound! After comparing the head ultrasound from when he was born to now (at one month old) she said that if there was any change in the ventricle size at all it was minimal and nothing to be concerned about!! YIPEE!! She measured his head circumference and he was between the 50th and 75th percentile - also perfect!! YIPEE again!! She pet his fontanel a few times - a favorite of hers and again (just like when she saw him in the NICU) stated that she just loved how his fontanel felt so normal. She checked out the scar on his back and said it was healed nicely. Then she said with a beautiful head like his, she didn't need him back for 3 months!! WOOHOO!! We thought head ultrasounds were going to have to happen every 4-6 weeks....12 weeks sounds way better to me!!
She did say that eventually he will have to have an MRI to check the status of his Arnold Chairi (That's the pulling of the back of the brain that was happening - remember the Banana sign??) Before he was born it appeared to have resolved and he is not showing any signs of it being a concern right now though so she said there was not any hurry....Because he is going to have to be sedated for it :( she said she thought it would be fine to wait 6-12 months (unless he starts showing signs that are concerning)
Overall it was a great appointment!! Thank you for the prayers! God is good and continues to do big things with this little guy :) Just wanted everyone to know that today went just perfect :)
Love and Hugs!
PS - I'm working on those pictures that I promised as we speak..... :)
