So here is the update on all that is going on at the Diehl household!
Disclaimer….May has been CRAZY TOWN!! We seriously had something going on every single weekend – I think it was seriously worse than December!! I was really ready for June to start where we didn’t have much planned but somehow that isn’t quite working out the way I had envisioned either….oh well, we can sleep when we are dead right??
First of all, we have a ONE YEAR OLD!! Seriously?? How is that even possible??!! I cannot believe that my baby is ONE!! It’s funny that in one moment I feel like he has been around forever and can’t really remember what life was like before him and then the next I’m saying that I can’t believe he has already been a part of our family for a year!! He has been such a precious addition to our family!! His little personality is coming out more and more. He is the most easy going kid on the block….MOST OF THE TIME and then all the sudden when you least expect it this little feisty boy shows up and has a pretty strong opinion about life and how he feels things should work!! He is currently eating us out of house and home on a pretty regular basis! The baby food is gone – he eats what we eat for dinner (and often more than the 4 year olds). The bottles are gone – drinking milk out of a sippy cup, and getting quite upset if you don’t get him that cup in what he feels like is an ample amount of time. He is refusing to do any signs and will not He is crawling up on hands and knees everywhere….EVERYWHERE!! The dog bowls are naturally his favorite (it’s like a splash park set up just for him) but he also enjoys computer cords, remote controls and pretty any of the twins toys that he isn’t supposed to have. We also just got rid of the paci officially so now he has really moved into big boy world!
To celebrate the big day we had a mustache party – thank you Hobby Lobby – which turned out totally adorable! It was my pathetic (and failed) attempt at a low key birthday party (HaHa – if you know me you know what a joke the idea of anything low key is). I’m going to post some pictures from the shin dig on the picture page – check them out….they are definitely good for a few laughs!!
To weekends later, Stephen and I traded in our sanity and took a road trip….with 3 children (two 4 year olds and a one year old)….TO INDIANA (yep….that’s about 14 hours from Jacksonville)!! Stacey, Stephen’s cousin, was getting married and wanted the twins to be ring bearers. Good thing I love her! Not sure I would have done this for many other people J and I still think that it was all part of an evil plan to get us and the kids up to Indiana since much of Stephen’s Indiana family has never met the kids!!
We headed out at 3 am (there was much thought that went into that – hypothetically it gave Stephen and I a few hours to sleep on Wednesday night but still allowed us to get several hours of driving in before the kids were awake for the day) with Tony (Stephen’s cousin and brides brother) and his girlfriend Jessie following in the car behind us.
Overall the car ride there and back were uneventful! The boys did AWESOME!! We watched a lot of movies, had a lot of snacks and did a lot of coloring!! We also had many MANY conversations over the walkie talkies (yes, I know we have cell phones but these were so much more fun) with Tony and Jessie in the other car! Mason and Jace frequently would insist that they need to ask them something which would typically be followed with “Hey Tony, how’s the drive going back there?”
We stayed in a hotel….all 5 of us….for 4 nights which was interesting but also an adventure that we made it through alive. I must say Mason and Jace sleeping on the same pull out couch bed was TOTALLY ADORABLE!! Thankfully we were busy enough while we were there that they never had any trouble sleeping!! We enjoyed some cooler than usual weather while we were there – which I thoroughly enjoyed but really messed up my outfit plans….had to get a little creative! My sleeveless, very summery dress didn’t really go with the 50 degree weather!!
The main purpose of the trip was to hopefully get two 4 year olds, dressed in tuxes down the aisle successfully for Noah and Stacey’s wedding. There were definitely some, haha who am I kidding, there were a ton of moments where I thought there was no way we were actually going to be successful. We had meltdowns about nearly everything (and I totally got confused on my times and we were almost late…oops!!) but when it was all said and done, I had two very handsome boys walk down the aisle like gentlemen successfully….they even smiled for a few pictures!! Success!! And it only cost me a cup of chip ahoy cookies each J
The rest of the time was spent making good and fun memories with aunts, uncles and cousins! We had square donuts, ate at Green Acres, played on the playground, got to worship at Crosslane and just hung out! Overall it was a great trip – and though I have NO desire to “enjoy” that drive again for a really long time I am so glad we went!! Pictures pictures!! Check them out :)
To back track a little, on the way up to Indiana we did make a little detour trip (Thanks Tony and Jessie) to Vanderbilt. It was a short stop and a little crazy being that we had two 4 year olds who at this point had been locked in car seats for 8 hours and just wanted to run around like crazy banchies, but so worth it! We got to hug all of our Vanderbilt family and introduce them to Easton. They couldn’t believe how big he was and were just thrilled to hear how well he is doing!! This picture says it all…..Jace screaming, Easton not looking and hey, can’t really even see me – oh well….it’s the thought that counts!!
Now on to the exciting stuff :)
Last Friday I brought Easton back into work. He is officially a big boy and that means it’s time to get his first pair of “legit” braces. The ones that he has been wearing up until now have been hand made by my uber talented co-worker but are pretty basic so now that he is wanting to be upright it’s time to get him the real deal. Before we got down to business with the braces we decided to play in the equipment closet a little. This would be one of those major benefits of having a pediatric physical therapist for a mom….lots of equipment to play with, try out, borrow, etc J Ms. Lisa found us a good option and instructed us to take it home and practice…..This is what we got:
So, that’s my update! No much going on at our house as you can see!! J I’ve got lots of pictures to post for your enjoyment and (as I say every time) am going to do my best to actually post more often so I don’t have to write such a novel!!
Thanks for the continued prayers – God is good all the time!!
Love and Hugs
