Today is Butt Day, which if you are new to this crazy world of ours is the day we celebrate the first time Easton's butt was born....better explained as the day I had surgery when I was pregnant to close his spina bifida defect. So today was celebrated with some friends and family. We sang Happy Birthday to Easton's bottom (which is probably the big boys favorite part), wore our Vanderbilt gear and ate cinnamon "buns" to celebrate.
Never in all the years that I looked forward to motherhood did I imagine singing happy birthday to one of my kids behinds but hey - There are worse things I suppose!!
So back to today is a hard day....I think it's hard because it is a very real and defined reminder that Easton has spina bifida. It's a very real reminder that his life is going to be different from his brothers, from his cousins and from his peers. Today is a reminder that things are going to be tough at times, that things aren't going to go the way we want them to all of the time and that as a family there are going to be times where we have to make adjustments.
But, today is also a reminder of how stinking cool Easton is!! There aren't a lot of people in this world who can say they have a scar that's older than they are!! Today is a reminder of what a fighter he is, of how God can work big things through very little people. Today is a reminder that Easton is not spina bifida...he's just a really cute kid with spina bifida. Spina bifida doesn't define him, it's just part of his story!!
Today is a reminder of how amazing God is, of how far medicatl advancements and technology have come and of how incredible Vanderbilt is!! Without the amazing medical team at Vanderbilt, not only would we not be celebrating Butt Day, I'm also confident that though Easton would still be with us, our lives would be vastly different than they are today!!
So baby boy - this is for you!
Easton,
Mommy and daddy love you more than you could ever imagine! Today celebrates a pretty scary day - Today, in 2013 your daddy handed over your life as well as mommy's life to the amazing hands of some amazing doctors at Vanderbilt Medical Center. With lots of prayers and lots of trust in the Lord we had surgery that we hoped would help make your life just a little bit better in the future. We are forever so grateful for all of the doctors and nurses who took such good care of you and mommy on that day and the many days that followed. Baby boy - you are such a fighter, such a hard worker and so determined to not let anything keep you down!! I know God has huge plans for your life in the future and I'm confident in staying that because I've already watched God use you in amazing ways!! The amount of lives that you have already been able to touch in just your 20 short months of life have been amazing.
We don't know what the future holds for you lovebug - will you be be musical, good in school, interested in sports....Will you be tall, stay blonde and exactly what color are your eyes going to end up being? But I do know this - your mommy and your daddy love you to the moon and back and will always fight for what is best for you - NO MATTER WHAT! Easton, as long as you keep pushing, we promise to keep pushing right next to you!
I cannot imagine my life without you - you are the perfect fit for this family and we just couldn't have it any other way!! Always remember that Jesus loves you, kids can be cruel and you're always safe at home. We love you, HAPPY 2ND BUTT DAY!!
