Easton had his first pediatrician appointment on Tuesday. It went very well. We saw a doctor who I like but don't know very well. I think I may have freaked him out a little. He asked a really simbple question about his time in the NICU and I launched into his entire history - all the tests he had had and results of said tests, along with plans of follow ups etc. He was frantically writing things down and kept shaking his head....When I busted out with "Dr. Loveless - who spoke highly of you by the way - wants to put him in a brace for his hip displasia but doesn't want to use a pavlik he is going to customize something for him" the doctor looked up at me....that's when I figured I better explain myself. I said...."Sorry, I'm a pediatric physical therapist - this is kind of what I do." He laughed and said "I was impressed - and don't apologize - makes my life easier now I don't have to review his history."
He got great marks at the doctor. His weight was up to 6# 8 oz (up 2 oz from when we left the hospital) and the doctor said to just continue what we are doing. He is scheduled to go back for a regular newborn appointment at 2 weeks. We are hoping he is back up to his birth weight by that appointment.
Easton had his first officially outing today - and man was it nice to get out of this house!! My mom is still here - what an amazing blessing she has been. She is going to be completely exhausted when she goes home. She has been primarily on twin duty but like any grandma....she has also been cooking, cleaning, doing laundry and getting plenty of errands run and Easton snuggles in!! Today we decided to take on the challenge of Sams and Babies R Us with the three kiddos. The boys were so excited that mommy and baby Easton were able to come!! They aren't used to me being able to go on their adventures with them and I didn't realize how much I had missed Sams :)
I noticed a few funny things on our first adventure out.....
First of all, a single stroller is SOOO small!! It was really weird to only be pushing one little baby around and not feel like I was driving a limo!! Second - one baby is not nearly as attention getting as two babies! I remember any time Stephen and I were in public when the boys were little we couldn't go 5 minutes before someone was oohing and awing over the twins. I was out in public for several hours today and I think I had one person say something about him. It was weird to walk around without all of the adoring looks from strangers! Apparently one baby at a time is much too normal to warrant a strangers oohs and awes and well wishes.
Third - I am WAY more portable with only one!! Only week old and I have already mastered breastfeeding in the car sitting in the parking lot - a task I only attempted once with the boys and swore I would NEVER do again!! Bring on the adventures ladies and gentlemen - we are officially mobile!!
All three boys got A+ on our adventures! I was impressed - Easton didn't make a sound and the boys were so well behaved! So much so they earned special lunch thanks to Grandma 'Dogan!
We've been busy - imagine that :)
Tuesday Easton got to be a photography model for a local photographer. She was putting on workshops and needed newborn models so Heather and I headed out to her studio for some pictures (I guess that was actually his first outing!) She worked with him for about 1 1/2 hours - and I should get some free pictures out of the deal. I'll make sure to share them when I get my hands on them - they looked pretty cute from where I was sitting!!
Wednesday Grammy and Heather headed home. :( and we did newborn pictures with our amazing photographer Danita (that is who photographed the boys - and who will photograph my family always!! love her she is like part of the family!!) She came to the house and hung out with my crazy family for several hours. She kept saying that she was getting some awesome stuff but was very secretive and wouldn't share any of the gems with me.....I'll hope to get my hands on the slideshow of all the gems in 2 weeks or so :)
Mr. Easton is doing great. He is eating like a champ and sleeping well. He gives me 3 or 3 1/2 hours through the night which isn't bad for a 1 week old!! Mommy is tired but hanging in there. Daddy headed back to work today - which I know he didn't want to do! But he only has a few weeks left until summer when his schedule will open up significantly!! The big boys are adjusting pretty well....having moments where they get a little jealous of all the attention that E is getting but they are resilient, I know they will be fine! Bless their little hearts, they have been through so many changes since January - I don't blame them for having a little trouble adjusting.....AGAIN! I'm looking forward to finding a new normal routine and actually really looking forward to getting back to cooking (I actually really missed that on bed rest) - remind me I said that in a few months when the last thing I want to do is come up with whats for dinner!!
Thank you for the continued prayers! I promise to keep everyone up to date on what's going on in the crazy Diehl house!
Love and hugs!
